The Commonwealth Heroines initiative identifies and honors extraordinary women from across the state. We are asking legislators to play a special role by partnering with us to identify the 2023 Class of Commonwealth Heroines. \n\n\n\nWhat is the Commonwealth Heroines Celebration?\n\n\n\nThe Commonwealth Heroines Celebration is an opportunity to recognize the women who don’t always make the news but who are truly making a difference in their communities\, businesses\, or volunteer endeavors. We rely on legislators to nominate incredible women in their districts for their contributions to their community and the Commonwealth. \n\n\n\nHow can YOU help?\n\n\n\nThe MCSW respectfully requests that each legislator recommend one female constituent to represent her community and be honored as a 2023 Commonwealth Heroine. All Commonwealth Heroines will be invited to attend a ceremony on June 23\, 2023\, at the State House in Boston. DESCRIPTION:Advocacy Day is an event held annually by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) to rally for legislation that advances the rights and opportunities of women and girls across the Commonwealth. The MCSW invites all members of the community to join us at the Massachusetts Statehouse on Wednesday\, May 31\, 2023 from 11am – 3pm ET. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Commission discusses key findings from the previous year in collaboration with regional Commissions\, reports findings collected from public hearings hosted during the year throughout the Commonwealth\, and lays out our legislative priorities for the coming session. This initiative focuses on developing leadership and civic engagement skills through educational workshops\, skill-building opportunities\, and the opportunity to connect with peers across the state. \n\n\n\nGELI 2023\n\n\n\nThis year’s GELI interactive programming will take place in-person on Wednesday\, April 19\, 2023. Applications are now live! Register now. \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain confidence\, explore their leadership styles\, and expand their legislative advocacy skills by attending the full day of in-person activities that include a welcome breakfast\, break-out sessions led by MCSW State and Regional Commissioners as well as youth programming experts\, a networking lunch to engage with their peers\, and participate in an exciting end-of-day celebration. \n\n\n\nThe tools participants learn during GELI will be imperative to their daily future selves but will also provide them the skills to participate in MCSW’s Girls’ Track during our Annual Advocacy Day at the State House on May 31\, 2023.      \n\n\n\n2023 Program Objective:\n\n\n\nEquip youth with the skills to advocate and express their concerns and needs of their community. This is achieved by a workshop series that will provide coaching and training in the follow areas: Self-esteem and confidence building\, advocacy and leadership.
