Three new state commissioners have joined the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW). The Commission welcomes Dr. Kimberly Shea, Divya Chaturvedi, and Carol Campbell, who were appointed by the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators and Governor Charles Baker.

The Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators appointed Dr. Kimberly Shea and Divya Chaturvedi, each for two-year terms. As the Dean of Nursing at Mount Wachusett Community College, Kimberly has experience both in academia as well as in healthcare as a registered nurse. The Commission is excited about her experience in the field, as well as her commitment to remaining an active member of her community in her volunteer time. 

Divya brings more than 15+ years of international development and global non-profit management experience. She is fiercely dedicated to improving gender issues and has previously worked at a number of world’s leading international organizations and academic institutions, including UNDP, UNIFEM, Ford Foundation, and Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). 

Outgoing Governor Charles Baker appointed Carol Campbell, a champion of business, to serve until 2025. She was elected “Women of the Year” in 2014 by the Professional Women’s Chamber of Western Massachusetts. With her entrepreneurial expertise in the business world, the Commission looks forward to her unique perspective. 

“For the first time since the pandemic began, the MCSW State Commission is fully seated with 19 Commissioners. This is an incredible cadre of community leaders with a diverse range of personal and professional experience. These dedicated and talented appointees will enhance this Commissions’ ability to focus on our ambitious legislative agenda for 2023 on behalf of all of the women in the Commonwealth,” said MCSW Chairwoman Dr. Sarah Glenn-Smith.

MCSW’s Commissioners’ work includes legislative and public policy advocacy, conducting public hearings on issues affecting women throughout the Commonwealth and hosting the annual Commonwealth Heroines event at the State House honoring women who make significant community contributions.

As the Commission celebrates their 25^th anniversary in 2023, its current commissioners and staff are elated to see what these unique experiences and backgrounds will bring. The Commission is excited to welcome our newest Commissioners, and know that these women will supersede expectations and assist the Commission to continue advancing the lives of the women of the Commonwealth.
